The concept of nutrition garden aims at continuous supply of vegetables to cater the daily needs of the family. Most of the rural people of West Garo Hills are under nourished along with nutrient deficiency disorders due to ignorance about importance of vegetables in their diets. On this note ICAR-Krishi Vigyan kendra, West Garo Hills organized a day long training programme on “Importancec of nutritional garden for food security ”at Community Hall, Aminda Rangsa on 1st November 2024 under the leadership of Dr.Joyoshree Mahanta, CTO (Plant Pathology).The programme was attended by 53 farmers from across four different villages viz. Aminda Rasngsa, Aminda Simsang, Allabagre and Nengja Bolchugre. Different problems faced by farm women in handling nutritional garden were also discussed at length during the programme. Various kinds of nutritious vegetables seeds like red cabbage, beet root, carrot, tomato, garden pea, french beans, spinach, lettuce, cole crops, chilli, brinjal, dwarf dolichos beans etc were distributed to the beneficiaries under the project. The farmers were provided with protrays for raising seedlings and yellow sticky trap to combat insect pests. At the end of the programme farmers expressed their gratitude to KVK for timely distribution of vegetable seeds and other inputs. This timely initiative by KVK demonstrates the purpose of increasing nutritional diversity at the household level while also supporting income and rural development.
